Piccolo Doppio
Overview
The Piccolo Doppio is a modular, non-imaging dual-field-of-view (DFOV) hyperspectral range spectrometer system. Using a QE Pro Fluorescence spectrometer, it provides a sub nm spectral resolution capable of retrieving solar induced fluorescence via measurements at the the oxygen O₂-A absorption feature (760 nm). From this, assessments of vegetation health, photosynthetic activity, and potential biomass yield, can be conducted.
The Piccolo Doppio is used to make spectrally and radiometrically resolved measurements of upwelling radiance and downwelling irradiance near simultaneously, and can be used for both fixed-point logging and measurements from rotary-wing UAVs.
The facility provides both a ground-based Piccolo Doppio system for fixed point logging, using a robust waterproof enclosure with a 5 m long fibre optic bundle, and a UAV mounted solution allowing for airborne measurements of SIF.
